The reason why I use the word intuition is because that is a more common ‘clair‘ ability of all the psychic senses. Also, it just takes longer to type out ‘psychic ability’. (yes, I can be lazy that way)
Contrary to popular belief, everyone is psychic!
One’s psychic capability is like any other skill or ability, the more you use it the better you get. The studies in Tarot Quest will help you exercise your psychic abilities. You may have thought you don’t have a psychic ability, but here you will find out what those abilities actually are. With that, you might suddenly recall a moment in your past that you can relate back to these explanations.

THE SIX PSYCHIC SENSES

Just like we have our physical senses: see, hear, smell, taste,
and touch (feel), we have those as clair senses plus an additional sense
which is the knowing sense.
• Clairvoyance = Clear Seeing
• Clairaudience = Clear Hearing
• Clairalience = Clear Smelling
• Clairgustance = Clear Tasting
• Clairsentience = Clear Feeling
• Claircognizance = Clear Knowing

Why is Empath not on the list?
The expression ’empath’ originates from science-fiction. The
first use of the term appears in ‘The Empath,’ a story written by
Scottish author J.T. McIntosh in 1956. This was obviously long before
counselor Troi in Star Trek or Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy; were most people recognize the term.
Regardless, you won’t see me using that word, but you are free to use
it if you need to.

BUT, what does "empath" mean?

An Empath is someone who psychically feels things. Ever hear the saying, ‘Trust your gut‘? That phrase actually is referring to clairsentience. That is because clairsentience is the psychic sense of feeling. You may get a sensation in your stomach that is either a good feeling or a bad feeling. Is not only an actual physical sensation it can also be an emotional sensation. Have you ever walked into a room and suddenly felt sad? Later you find out that in that very room an hour previously someone had had a heart attack and died. Quite often clairsentience will be labeled as ‘empath’.

Today the term empath is being used quite often. As you see, I do not like the term as it is often misused, plus what is wrong with using the word clairsentience?

I do want to make one thing clear about people who say they are ‘Empaths’. It’s something of a fine line and there is a bit of cross over, but there are empaths who are clairsentient, and then there are ‘empaths’ who are just hypersensitive. Now, hypersensitivity can lean towards clairsentience, but not always. Let me give you an example.
I used a swear word in a comment on social media. It was not used in anger, I was actually giggling. The word was used to add some ‘flair’ to my sentence. An ‘Empath’ replied to my comment and told me (not asked) to not use swear words as it was passive aggressive behavior and, 'as an empath, it hurts me.' Nope, nope, NOPE!… that is a textbook hypersensitive person. If she was truly a clairsentient person, she would have felt the amusement I was feeling when I wrote my comment.
Where the gray area comes in; between hypersensitive people and clairesentient people is that often both of these abilities (one or the other or both) occur from having experienced some sort of trauma. Other psychic abilities also develop as a coping/survival mechanism when one has experienced trauma. My husbands grew up abused and he is psychometric (a form of clairsentience), he developed this ability as a form of protection.

Brief Breakdown

• Clairvoyance = Clear Seeing
These are mental visions, prophetic dreams, and some people will actually superimpose something that they see in front of them, Basically a hallucination but without the drugs. These visions can be realistic, symbolic. It can be patterns or colors, shapes or objects. It can be like a photograph, a movie clip or flashes of different still scenes like a comic strip.
• Clairaudience = Clear Hearing
These are a voice that you hear inside your ear or inside your head that is not your own voice it can be sounds and even songs. Now, songs that get stuck in your head, may or may not be clairaudience. Know that a song that plays out in your environment repeatedly, is not clairaudience, but also, it may or may not be a sign from spirit. The things that are not psychic impressions yet are presenting significantly are most likely synchronicities and do have meaning; but that is a different lesson (Signs and Omens.... coming eventually)
• Clairalience = Clear Smelling
This is suddenly smelling something that is not in your surrounding environment. Now this one needs to be really aware and scrutinize the greater environment. Sitting in your house and smelling a charcoal grill might be someone down the street grilling. But if it is the middle of winter and raining, or you live on the 30th floor of a high rise, then it is most likely Clairalience. So be wary and do not automatically think that what you are smelling is psychic in origin.
• Cairgustance = Clear Tasting
This is as it sounds, getting a taste of something that you 'should not' be tasting; as in, you are not eating anything. This is one of the more elusive of the clairs. This tends to occur more in the presence of a person in spirit. If your grandmother made a specific kind of cookie when ever you came to visit and you got a taste of those cookies, then your grandmother is communicating with you.
• Clairsentience = Clear Feeling
This is the most common of clairs and it is often called 'empath', as I mentioned above. This 'feeling' can come as an actual physical sensation. Say that you suddenly have a strong sharp pressure in your leg. Few hours later your best friend calls and tells you she broke her leg. The feeling can also come as an emotion. You walk into a room and suddenly are sad, happy or angry, or any other emotion. This is that specific aspect of clairsentience that is often identified as 'empath'. By walking into that room and feeling that emotion, you are picking up on the events that occurred in that room previously. You can also get these feelings by being close to people. Psychometry is also part of this clair. This is the ability to touch something and get a feeling, and sometimes if you are exercised in clairvoyance, a vision.
• Claircognizance = Clear Knowing
This clair can sometimes be confused with clairsentience as the two often work hand in hand. The feeling is so subtle and the knowing just kicks in. Claircognizance is the thought that comes out of nowhere that is 'illogical' in the 'why would you know this' department. Say you are watching some action adventure movie and the thought, "Don is going to propose to Judy" runs through your head. Why that, why now? There was nothing in the movie to lead up to such a thought. It really came out of nowhere. Yes, the couple have been dating for quite sometime, but neither of them ever mentioned marriage. A couple days later you get a call from Judy and she tells you that she wants you to be her maid of honor at her wedding.

Now these explanations and examples are not 'the all' to these abilities, the experiences are different from person to person. These are simply the more common of examples.
It is of utmost importance that you realize that.
Do not, I repeat, do NOT have any preconceived notions about HOW your intuition will present itself. If you do, you will block or overlook the psychic impressions you do have.
Be open, be neutral, be aware without expectation and you will be able to receive and identify psychic impressions.
Also, do not second guess yourself. If something comes to you, take note. Wait, and see what happens. The more you pay attention, the more you are fully aware of every thought and feeling, the easier you will be able to identify what is you and your own personal thoughts and feelings and those that are psychic.

WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT TAROT QUEST? A Tarot Message Post Retro

Did Mercury kick your ass hard? This was an intense and notable retrograde (May 29 to June 22). Some who question the validity of astrology are now giving astrology a look because of all the ‘crazy’ that was going on. Serious issues with communication functions. My husband who does not pay attention to these things but is familiar with my ramblings, had to reset the internet nearly twice daily and jokingly asked if it was a Mercury retrograde…. Seriously not a joke…. This Mercury retrograde has been a doozy; and with good reason.

Mercury has two home signs, Gemini and Virgo. This retrograde happened while Mercury and the Sun was in Gemini. When a planet is in its home sign it is as it says, ‘at home’. Not much different than ourselves, when we are at home we are at our most comfortable and are (typically) our most pure and authentic selves.

Mercury poured on its most authentic self for sure.

Now, some people had no problems this retrograde. I looked at a couple natal charts and found some commonalities between the two and possible placements that could explain this. But I would need more charts to validate my theory. (Did you breeze through this retrograde, or did extra good things happen for you? Would you be willing to give be birth info? Email me at owlkamyst@gmail.com).

So this blog entry was not to explain away the astrological, but it did need that introduction. The purpose is a message from the Universe spoken with Tarot cards… I picked the Revelations deck, (re for re, right?), threw three cards for a freeform spread and I can say, I am not surprised with the cards that came up.

4 of Cups in reverse; a card of ‘ho-hum’. What are the odds? The Lovers card is ruled by the sign….. GEMINI.

So what is the fine message from these three cards.

We have seen or experienced the over emotional outbursts, people not being chill. Where things before the retro was ‘ho-hum’ everyday stuff, and no one was ‘paying any attention’, suddenly people became nit picky about stuff, would seem to hunt down things to be upset about. There has been a lot of heated arguments, people’s egos gone wild in all kinds of directions, but many just wanted to be a ‘voice of authority’ in some fashion. Because you know… when life is boring, why not create some drama, right? Not my game, but whatever… I blame Mercury. I’ve seen a lot, more than usual, confrontations, hostile conversations, and very strange relationship problems (I’m part of a relationship advice group, and most of the posts have been really bizarre).

Since it appears that most of us had challenges with this retrograde, the Lovers addresses you with a question; in light of all that has happened over these past few weeks, what are you going to do? You have choices to make and your choices need to be ones you commit to.

See, retrograde are not just a phase of havoc and chaos, it is a time of reevaluating, reflecting, review. These are good thing to do when making a choice and commitment.

This is tied to the reversed nature of the 4 of Cups. In all the heavy negative stuff, there is a piece of clarity this card bring when it appears reversed. One could say experiencing all the negativity and draining energy is an eye opener. What do you see? Look again, look from a different perspective, as that is the review and re-evaluate… you are called to see things from a different angle.

The authoritative nature of the 2 of Wands is a call to action, take control, exercise your power. If this retro put you down in the dirt, well then, grow! What have you learned? Use your reflection of these recent events to choose your direction and start the journey.
Owl Ka Mysthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03523201126901001484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489195571847717508.post-57461831963657491862021-04-30T16:50:00.003-07:002022-03-16T18:09:55.150-07:00Here's Your Sign! The Universe and It's Sense of Humor.
I often use signs as a way to figure things out and what I should be focusing on.

One specific time I asked for a sign, is a time I will never forget, as well as is just another piece that shows how the Universe has a sense of humor.

I was living 22 miles from work, not a big deal distance wise, right? HOWEVER... this was 22 miles of mountain roads, meaning that it took me an hour to go the distance. Doing that 5 days a week was really getting to me. I am not a morning person and getting up at 6am to be at work and drop my daughter off at school was draining me, and putting a load on my already 'over worked' truck. While I loved my peaceful mountain top, it just was not worth it anymore.... but at the same time, I was conflicted due to several things that were a benefit to the mountain. SO.... one morning, on my way to work I asked for a sign.
"Should I start hunting for a house in town; show me a white bird." The second I said it I thought, 'Oh that is so dumb!'

Why? Because 'town' is coastal and the coast is full of species of birds that are white. I had a really good odds that I would see a white bird. But, the 'rule' is, when you ask for a sign you ask with the first thing that comes to your mind and you don't change it.... so, 'oh well'... I would just have to roll with it.

I drove for 30 minutes, no white birds. 45 minutes, no white birds. Hit the coastal road with 7 miles left to go. Drove past the bay, the marshes... no white birds. Just as I was about to exit a big truck sped past me. On the back window was one of those cut out decals; you know, like the one's that are white and have the dad, mom and kids... and maybe pets.

The decal was.... a white Woody Woodpecker, holding a sign... and that sign said....
"Here's Your Sign"

I was laughing the rest of the way to work, I was laughing off and on all day long. It is a reflection of you (or the sitter) in the situation of focus.

The card in this position is 6 of Earth. This is about creative energy combined with passion, it is the driving force and source of joy that keeps one fulfilled in life. This is is connecting to the creative energy that is within as well all around. It is a love of nature and being in tune with nature, inspiration from and honoring everything in life. *If you have been stressed or fatigued, the recommendation is to take a mini-vacation to somewhere you can immerse yourself in nature. Get to know the sounds of the life that lives there and their routines. A lot can be learned from nature.

Negative Influence card is 3 of Air. The 'seasons' are changing and thus, one needs to adapt and adjust the routine. What once was not, now is; and there is trouble if one cannot make the adjustment. The challenge here is NOT taking charge of things and making adjustments and tending to the things that need tending. Responsibilities are not being dealt with. This is a need to get your head into the game and get down to business. If motivation is lacking, then it is going to take strength to get the mind into a determined mood to 'attack' the needs in life and get everything in order. The warning applies: Avoid a downward spiral into chaos. Think Ready, Set, Go. While it seems like a lot of work, just getting it done and out of the way feels so much better in the end. Order (and not chaos) is liberating.

Positive Influences card is Queen of Earth. The Queen is a wise, skilled and compassionate individual. This speaks of hands on nurturing, the training of others in the ways of different skills and crafts. The Queen has a love for all life. This virtue has animal whisperer qualities and a green thumb. She is one that listens to the sounds of nature and nature for a deeper understanding in how it all works. This allows her to know what her environment needs and what it will give or bring. It is the call of the cows that lets her know a storm is coming. It is the color of the leaves that lets her know what to feed her plants. You have much skill and wisdom and are capable of self sufficiency. You pay attention to everything around you be it natural or urban and thus know what to do, how to do and what not to do.

Do what you do best!

The Apex card is the card that brings it all together and speaks on the over all energy and situation. The card in the position of Apex is the 8 of Water and speaks of an unpleasant environment. There are 'bad spirits' that are fouling things up and causing problems. There is stagnation and things out of balance. This takes us back to the negative influences card, things in chaos. Like a song the get stuck in your head, certain 'bad habits' have developed and persisted; things need to get cleaned up and put into order. This is not a healthy space for the soul as it bogs down everything in life. Things cannot grow and flourish in this sort of environment. This card's call to action is to cleanse your space energetically and physically, and to cleanse yourself spiritually and emotionally.

Owl Ka Mysthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03523201126901001484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489195571847717508.post-72947966694162743302021-01-07T16:24:00.001-08:002022-03-16T18:12:05.582-07:00How To Ask A Question

Tarot is a wonderful tool for getting insight and helps in finding answers. The cards themselves may or may no provide a specific answer, but a reading allows the mind to work things out so that a person can find some direction. With tarot having the stigma of being a tool for fortune telling, questions get often phrased in a direct manner.
"Does he like me?"

"When will I get married?"
"Will I have a baby?"

"Will I find a job?"

These questions are limited to two answers- either 'yes' or 'no'. Tarot does not work that way (well not exactly, but more on that later). Now, let's examine these questions for what they are. If someone was to ask another these questions, just to get an opinion or advice, what would they be told?

"Well, how would I know, why don't you ask him?"

"Are you dating anyone right now?” Or, “Have you talked about marriage with your SO?”

"Well, do you want a baby?"

"Only if you get off your butt and go look for one."

Getting a tarot reading for these questions would be a waste. So how can these issues be addressed utilizing the tarot? First thing is to properly phrase the question. Questions need to be in an open-ended format. If you are not sure what an open-ended question is, it is a question that invites a dialog.

'Does he like me?' would be, 'How does he feel about me?'
‘When will I get married?’ would be, ‘What can I do to find a life partner who will commit to marriage?’

'Will I have a baby?' would be, 'What is it best for me for having children?'

'Will I find a job?' would be, 'What do I need to do to find a job?'

Of course there are many different questions that can be asked for these issues.

'How can I make finding a job easier?', 'What do I need to do to be a good parent?', 'How do I make myself more appealing and desirable?'

In forming open ended questions, it allows for the cards to give a more in-depth response compared to a plain old 'yes' or 'no'.

So what about the 'well not exactly' (mentioned earlier) as far as tarot giving a yes or no? This is a matter of likelihood. If the cards are asked 'Does he like me?'; they will describe, based on the spread used, the thoughts, emotions, attitude of the person of interest. In a long winded manner, the reading will express dislike, unawareness, or interest. While this then would give a yes or no in essence, as a reading, it is still a waste to a degree. If the reading indicates that there is no interest, then the person is able to move on right then and there and that is not really a waste, but it is in the sense that so much more could have been discovered.

Side Note: It is not a (my) typical practice to do a reading that involves intruding into the lives of a third party. However, I use the 'does he like me' as an example for it is often asked. In rephrasing the question, the question is made into something that becomes more focused on the person asking the question that their person of interest. When I say so much more can be discovered, we find that in the rephrasing of the 'does he like me' question into 'what can I do to be more desirable?', we get a reading that carries a lot of value. Value that goes beyond just focusing on the person of interest for the information and advice provided in the reading can be utilized throughout life.

With all that said, I still can do a reading with a question that is phrased in a manner that can be answered with a ‘yes/no’, but the reading will say a whole lot more.

Owl Ka Mysthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03523201126901001484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489195571847717508.post-41502842953414873712020-09-12T16:36:00.002-07:002022-03-16T18:50:06.382-07:00What Is My Reading Process?I am a typically quiet person who likes to sit off to the side and watch things happen around me. This does not mean I am anti-social. I do speak up when I have something to say, or when I am asked a question.

The purpose of tarot is asking a question for some insight, a different perspective that may give some guidance and motivation.

So what do those two things have to do with each other, other than there is a question involved. Well, it has to do with my nature and how I read tarot cards.

I prefer to not do my readings for people in the traditional way, meaning face to face. I am more of a behind the scenes sort of person. I have done face to face readings and over the phone readings and I have found those to be a bit distracting. I get a storm of information in my head when I lay the cards out and it takes concentration to keep those thoughts in order when they come at me so fast. Then someone will interrupt with a question and then it takes me a moment to get it back.

And sometimes bits will be lost forever.

What else is distracting is too much information. When someone wants a reading from me, all I need is a question, or even just a point of departure like; work, relationship, family, moving…etc.

The less I know the better it is for both of us. It is better for me because I will not be influenced by additional information that the monkey mind wants to piece together.

And the biggest point: It is good for you so that you can get true validation for the information presented in the reading.

When I do a reading, I like to put on my headphones and listen to a playlist that I made just for when I read cards. The play list has mostly bluegrass, world beat, and reggae, but some other stuff too. The first thing I do after I get settled in is choose a deck. I bring out my box, which is an old wooden fruit flat. I look at my decks and one of them will call to me, that is the deck I pick to read with. Then I shuffle the cards as I focus on the person and their question. I shuffle until I feel that the shuffling is done, the cards start to feel 'resistant' to shuffling. I know that it is time to pull some cards.

I usually pull all the cards for the spread at once and look at them all collectively but there are times when I pull the first card and start writing. Once there is no more 'chatter', I pull the next card.
Which manner I pull the cards is all about intuition. Allowing the information to be presented in the manner that the divine chooses.
I do my readings by hand. Yes, I actually write them out before I type them up. I am a firm believer that the action of using the hand and writing has an energy and a power to it. And there is also that aspect of automatic and channeled writing. I have done a few readings that felt like my hand was the one in control and doing the work while I just sat back and read what was being written.
Writing for me also sparks visions and I am sure to express the things that I see, no matter how silly or off topic they may seem as they have always ended up being relevant and on target.

Spirit of Flowers Tarot - Lo Scarabeo

My readings are not quick little blurbs for each card. I do not have a string of keywords, or a bunch of situational sentences. I have a whole story to tell. The majority of my readings are 200+ words per card. Ok, so maybe not each card, but over all. If I have a 5 card reading there will be over 1,000 words for the reading even if one card is only 160 words.

Published
Speaking of story, some of my readings do come out very story like, a metaphorical adventure that mirrors the situation the questioner is going through. Sometimes the character in the card has something specific to say after I have given my take on the card and it's position, so I quote them. These unique type of readings are no common. I actually do quote cards somewhat often, but not every time. These fun readings are so different, I really enjoy doing them. Would like to have more like them now and then.

My readings can be reviewed here on my blog. Just look to the right for the list and pick a spread on the the spreads and read an actual reading down using that spread.

I did NOT come by way of the traditional Rider Waite Smith deck. At the time, I did not even know it existed. I actually started back in 1991 with The Native American Tarot by Magda Weck Gonzalez and J. A. Gonzalez; published by U.S. Games (not affiliated, just sharing the link). I chose this deck because I very much relate to and identify with the culture in both philosophy and spirituality. This inclination I have for the Native ways has been with me from very early on in my life. I was that kid that had no clue the goings on in the story of a black and white western movie, but I was rooting for the Natives. Watching westerns turned into reading books. I learned and continue to learn as much as I can and have had the honor to be invited and introduced to ceremonies and rituals.

So when I picked up this deck, study came easy. All the stories and traditions used to create the cards were all things I was already very familiar with.
I knew NOTHING about tarot as a whole. I did not know that there were so many decks already on the market. I was a complete noob and totally in the dark. But then this thing called the internet happened. Being the occult nerd that I am, the first thing I did when I got plugged into the WWW, I searched ‘Tarot’ and that was when I found the Aeclectic Tarot Forums. A whole new world of tarot opened up to me and where I was a dabbler in the cards, Tarot became a serious study.

So having come this far in my tarot journey and seeing everything out there in the tarot learning circles and groups, I will make it ‘official’ and state it here and now about my perspective and approach to tarot...
I am a bit of a tarot purist but I am also an artist.
HUH? Let me explain. Be prepared, I am going to take the long way to get there....

There is a saying that you must first learn the rules if you want to break them. One of the rules for life supposedly given to us by the Dali Lama. But for sure Pablo Picassio said,
“Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.
And then there was my mom who taught me, ‘Rules are meant to be bent’.

‘They’ Say ~
Start with the Rider Waite Smith deck - I say, “Only if you like it.”

There are so many other options out there. I am not at all attracted to the art of the original RWS deck, yes, I can appreciate it as an artist, but it's not in my taste. I’m also, as you may already know, not religious nor have I ever been. So this deck is not for me and if it’s not for you or anyone else, do not feel pressured into getting the deck because you feel that is what you need in order to be skilled at tarot.

‘They’ Say ~
You don’t need a book, just lay the cards out and use your intuition. - I say, “Do you really want to learn Tarot?”
Sure a picture is worth 1,000 words and with the gestalt approach you will find meaning in your cards. But that is not really learning how to read Tarot.

WITH THAT SAID ~
It’s a fact that one can come up with some fantastic insights when approaching the cards by just looking at them and never opening a book about tarot cards and their meanings. However, if you want to learn tarot, you are going to need to do some studying.

Tarot is built with a structure that is rooted in symbolism that is ages old. So when I say I am a tarot purist, I am talking about using the cards with the structure that they come with.

The suit of cups is focused on emotional parts of life. To apply some material definition such as finding employment, or some legal aspect like a court case would not be fitting. Those meanings belong to the suit of pentacles for material things and the suit of swords for the mental (legal) things.
Also worth mentioning is that knowing this structure makes learning the individual meanings of the cards a whole lot easier.

If you learn this structure and use a deck that is expressive with it’s imagery and is inline with the RWS tradition, you will find that you can read just about any deck. Some will be a little more difficult. Those that lack illustrated pips, those with limited scenery, those that stray from the traditional, and those that are of the ‘other tarot tradition’. By other tarot tradition, I mean those decks that are modeled after the Marseilles or Thoth decks.

But… I am not that snobby of a tarot purist. As an artist, I get that such things evolve. What was once a tradition known by few has become a fascination of the many and more and more independent and unique decks are being created and published. I’m sure there are over a dozen in development on kickstarter as I write this.

Now, while I am a strong proponent for knowing the bones of tarot, I also strongly encourage the intuitive aspect. For many, the psychic side is the harder 'study' compared to learning the card meanings. But the hard part in the psychic study is not so much learning as it's totally natural, it is trusting and discerning those impressions. Now, with that said, I had occasional clairaudient impressions as a child but when I started using the cards, my clair changed to clairvoyant, clairsentient and claircognizant and one reading when it was a clairalience experience, have not had another since.

If you take up a serious study of the cards learn the symbolism on a universal level and work within the perimeters of the system, you will find that the cards in combination with your intuition makes from some readings that will give you goosebumps... I am still in awe of how Spirit communicates when I start shuffling cards.

Owl Ka Mysthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03523201126901001484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489195571847717508.post-89276560825779060432017-08-07T17:45:00.001-07:002022-03-16T18:52:56.785-07:00Lemonade Anyone?<span face=""Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif">Recently I made quite the sacrifice based on the words of a friend. I was asked for help; which would require a huge change in my life. But I did it because I cared for my friend. I thought that we were on the same page of, 'we can team up and it will be a help to each other'.
<span face=""Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif">But it would not be long before odd things were said, contradictions, and the deal flip-flopped around as the what it would be. Don't get me wrong. I'm not breaking down in tears and feeling sorry for myself. What buggers me up is the whole thing is just mind boggling. It does not make sense why things turned out the way they did. All I can come up with is that someplace along the way, something changed and I was not notified and a dispute irrelevant to the excuse was used as a catalyst....in other words, strung along until the opportunity to 'make issue' came along.

<span face=""Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif">About the Empress~ She is the one that is caring and nurturing. She has a deep compassion for all living creatures and nature in general. In traditional meanings of the cards, she is associated with the planet of Venus; love, beauty, art, and pleasure. Being ruled by Venus, she also associates with the signs of Taurus and Libra.

<span face=""Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif">She is the ultimate mother figure.

<span face=""Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif">This falls in the position of Air- about the mind and communication, thoughts and learning. Libra is an air sign, the sign of balance.

<span face=""Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif">Now this can be seen a few different ways. Because it is my soul/personality card, it is expressing my place in this situation. That I was the kind and compassionate one. That I did what I did as a matter of love and protection for someone I cared about. If this card is taken to represent the mind of this individual, from where I sit and experiencing what happened, it is hard to say that they were compassionate in any way shape or form. Perhaps subconsciously, they know that this Empress nature I expressed was true and genuine.

<span face=""Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif">Fire - The High Priestess, we are both magical people, we both have an curiosity of the workings of the Universe from a mystical perspective.

<span face=""Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif">The High Priestess is one who has lived through experiences that most have not. This gives her an understanding about a great many things with a more wise perspective than the average person. Her wisdom comes from study and from experience. The Priestess in all her wisdom, knowledge and logic also has a strong intuitive side. Some times the truth in knowing is just knowing.
<span face=""Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif">But the High Priestess is also a

<span face=""Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif">Now, as mentioned, I relate to this archetype. She is often seen as an oracle, a mystic, occultist. I know that my intuition is sound, but I do not always listen to it. I can say I was not surprised by the eventual clash, I sensed something. In regards to hidden facts. I have a lot of facts that I was not able to share and what facts I was able to get across, fell upon deaf ears. Any logic I tried to convey was rejected. On the flip side, my intuition says that there where facts kept hidden from me.

just one of many kinds of divination decks in print today. Any deck that
is used for divination can be called an oracle deck but not all oracle
decks are tarot. Somehow people tend to use the word tarot to mean
any deck of cards that are used for divination and that is just not the
case.

Tarot decks have a specific structure.

There is the symbolism of the deck and the format of the deck. The format is 78 cards which are divided into two Arcanas; the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana is a small deck of 22 cards numbered 0-21. They are considered the Trump cards of the deck. The Minor Arcana is very much like a regular deck of playing cards, having four suits and a set of four court (face) cards. The Minor Arcana are numbered from Ace to 10 and have Page, Knight, Queen & King for the court cards. Some decks will give different names to the court cards and the Trump cards. The symbolism is rooted in the history of tarot used as a divination tool. Each suit of the Minor Arcana is associated with an element and each element associates with an aspect of life.

MINOR ARCANA SUITS

FIRE - WANDS - ENERGETIC (life force, inspiration, creation)

EARTH - PENTACLES - MATERIALISTIC (work, finances, skills)

AIR - SWORDS - INTELLECTUAL (communication, thoughts, legalities)

WATER - CUPS - EMOTIONAL (feelings, memories, intuition)

There is different schools of thought on the differences between the Major and Minor Arcana. Some say the Majors represent the different phases of spiritual growth. There is the idea that Majors are external, things outside of our control and Minors are internal, things we have control over. Majors are Spiritual and Minors are mundane.

Any deck that veers away from this format in a significant way is not really a tarot deck. The main exception would be a Trumps only deck.

Besides Tarot as a popular deck for reading, there are Lenormand cards which is a deck of 36 cards. They made their appearance at the turn of the 19th century. Added to Tarot and Lenormand cards, there is a plethora of all kinds of different themed decks that come in a varied number of cards and these are simply called oracle decks.

Myths of Tarot~
Two common areas of misconception are how one gets a tarot deck and who can touch it.

It is often said that you should be given a deck for it to work. I can personally tell you that the process of choosing your deck can be a wonderful experience. However, gifted decks are often found to be special in some way as well. As far as having a deck given to you as a gift, that is not necessary at all. Do not let this myth hinder acquiring your first tarot deck.

There are three different schools of thoughts about people handling tarot decks.
1- ‘Never let another person touch your deck, their energy will enter the deck and not work for you.’
2- ‘The person getting the reading MUST shuffle and cut the deck in order to put their energy into the reading.’
3- Energy is energy and it does not matter who touches them.... or not.
There is energy everywhere, that is a fact; energy does transfer from one object to another, that is life. Energy is constantly in motion. Everyone has a different experience with energy.
For some readers having the clients shuffle the cards is how they connect to the energy of that person. People who may be overly sensitive to other people's energy may want to keep their decks free of any energy that is not their own.
What it boils down to is that you do what you feel is right for you, what works for you.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
Lastly-

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
‘OH NO- I got the DEATH card! Am I going to die?’

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
The Death card is often feared because so many think that this card means that they or someone close to them will die. This is rarely the case. If the Death card shows up in a reading, it is usually a card that reflects a message of change. Out with the old and in with the new. The Death card has an astrological association, Scorpio. Scorpio is the sign of Death and Rebirth, a card of legacy. A keyword often used for the Death card is 'Transformation'.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
How Tarot Works~

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
Each individual card has a very specific root meaning to it and while it may be similar to other cards- it is still different.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
For example, all Ace cards speak of new beginnings. If the card is a Cups card then it is about some emotional beginning and if it is a Swords card then it is some new way of thinking. The depth of the card's meaning just builds from there.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
The finer details are found in the numerous symbols that are seen in each card, as well as how several cards interact with each other when arranged in a spread. Each position in a spread has it's own focus. A commonly used and simple example is the 'Past, Present, Future' spread. The card falling into each of those positions speak of that time frame. Note: Future positions do not speak in absolutes. What is seen is a potential future based on everything else. It may be a desired future or one that might be best avoided. It is up to the one receiving the reading to take proper action and either encourage or change that future.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
'How does a person read for another if they are not sitting with them?'

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
This is again about energy, the collective unconscious, the Anima Mundi which means World Soul. There are many who believe that we are all connected in spirit. It is this place of connectedness that a psychic will reach into and gather the information that is needed. Some use guides to help them through the Ether, others will use runes, tea leaves, what ever.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
THE PROMOTIONAL PART

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

~ Who I am as an Intuitive Reader of Tarot ~

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
My love of playing cards started when I was very young. I was a challenging player in any game taught to me.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
My interest in card reading started when I was 12 and my aunt read for me with a regular deck of playing cards. It would be a few years before I had an actual Tarot deck, that was in the summer of 1991.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
When I do readings, all I want is the question or focus for the reading, I can also do a ‘general’ reading where no question is asked and the cards are just drawn and the message from spirit is relayed.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
The card images and symbolism triggers my connection to the Anima Mundi. It may be a vision, a smell or some other impression I feel that brings more depth to the reading.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Wands dominates this throw and this indicates a lot of growth for you in 2010. The one Major card that appears in the spread is also about growth and expansion.
Collectively, this is about the expansion of oneself and development in our personal being and actions. The year will be full of growth in all areas of life but you need to remember that with growth comes growing pains. You will be faced with challenges and hard times and this can be painful.
As the saying goes, 'what does not kill us only makes us stronger'
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
There are the ideas that you have been rolling around in your head. These are projects, goals, attitude adjustments, habit forming/breaking- things that have been in your mind, but have yet to take any action on. This could be called a card of 'resolutions'. Creating a list of all these ideas and then formulating a plan of action and bringing these ideas into a reality. What are your ideas? What have you been thinking about and would like to change or accomplish in the the physical, mental, and spiritual realms of life? This card encourages you to take your ideas and nurture them. Take the seed of an idea and plant it so that it will grow. Give it life with love and attention. Feed your ideas with the nourishment that it needs. This card is telling you that you have seeds that are very ready to be put into the ground so that they can sprout.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">This card speaks of those that speak before they see the bigger picture. <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">People who are blind to reality or fair assessments. This is about people and situations where not everything is 'on the table' and there are aspects hidden that do not allow for a full review. Be aware of people who are judgmental.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
They are of no help to you. Be aware of people who are not open-minded and like to argue, they will not really listen to you. Be aware of people who speak behind your back. <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">This does not mean paranoid.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
I am not saying that people ARE talking behind your back. What the card is asking you is to be aware of such activity if such a situation unfolds that would have others jealous or misunderstanding you and your actions. This card is about words that are not spoken clearly. This could be miscommunication, hidden communication, speaking one's mind before they have all the facts. These communication issues will be your walls and challenges and is critical to your growth. Do not allow these walls to stop you in your tracks. Do not give up when you come to a wall. You can bust through it, climb over, find another way around it or come back to it later. Do not leave a wall by giving up. Consider all solutions, look at the bigger picture. There will be solutions that you may not like, but they will have to be done. Try to not be complex in your solutions, keep things as simple and neat as possible. In an in the moment need, trust and have faith in your gut feelings. Go with your first impressions, do not second guess yourself.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
Ace cards are about newness, beginnings, births, the dawning of something. For you, this is a rebirth, a reinvention of the self, a new you. You mentioned in your email about 'out with the old and in with the new'. This is exactly what this card is about. Those ideas mentioned in the first card, this is planting the ideas and watching them grow. You need your incubation time, the time between the idea and the seeing the results of the idea. It is between the thought and the action. Now is the time to incubate, plan your reinvention, know your plan and how you will live your life as this new you.
This card advises you to keep a youthful eye upon things, this echoes the simple approach seen in the second card. Do not allow the misfortune and hardships of the past influence the decisions of the future. What has happened has happened and you cannot change the past, but you do have control over the future. Entering into a situation that is similar to one where it turned out bad, you cannot allow that to effect you. That is the old you. Enter into situations as if you are totally new to the whole thing. Take a youthful innocent approach. Do not be jaded by the past.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

4 What to Keep card is the Wheel.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This is a card of expansion and good fortune.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
I am also feeling a sense of family, friends, and community.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
This is expressing the need to keep these people that you have a connection with close to you. These are the people who will help and support you. This card also says that those friends and family and people in your community that can help you needs to be expanded. Perhaps you are not getting out as much as you should. So to add to that, be careful to not become a hermit. Pull these people closer to you. The y have knowledge and skills that will help you through your time of growth and give you inspiration.
There is also something in your family tree. There is something about yourself that you wonder about since it is not something that seems to fit in to the rest of your immediate family. There is a way about you that is just not the norm and this leaves you with questions about why you are the way you are. This could be some physical feature, but more likely it is something about your personality and who you are within. Usually every family has one member that has researched the family tree, find such a person in your family and ask them questions. If you don't have anyone like that, perhaps that is something you may consider looking into. Many things can be understood about ourselves by knowing the people that came before us and who they were and what they had to endure.
(and example would be my dislike for organized religion- I have two different branches in my family tree of religious rebels, in England and several hundred years earlier in France - leaning that made my dislike understandable, it is 'in the blood')
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
5 What to Let Go card is the Queen of Wands.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
This is a very motherly card and many things are coming to me with this that it is hard to sort out so I am just going to ramble along and maybe something will ring a note with you. This letting go deals with a 'mother' issue and energy. It could be a mother/daughter conflict that you will have to finally come to terms with and walk away from even if unresolved for there is nothing that you can do about it now. To dwell upon it is a waste of energy and is taking away from the energy that you need to grow.
I see nurses. Could it be that you are training or working as a nurse or perhaps your mother has been ill? It could be that 2010 could be the year that your ill mother will find eternal peace, perhaps it is the year that you take your nursing job to a different hospital or doctors office, or take your training in a new direction? Perhaps you got into nursing because it was 'easier' but you really wanted to work with animals... perhaps you have been living your life according to your mothers desires and not living the life you want for fear of disappointing your mother. Well, you are in a time of growth and renewal, a time of change, you are in control. Perhaps you have been trying to get pregnant and now is not the time, or it may be that you are not to have children. While we have free will, I do feel that there is also fate and that somethings not matter how much free will we exert, are just not meant to be. What ever it is that deals with a nurturing mother energy, is what you are to let go of and move on from.
Now I also wonder, do you feel that you have a spirit presence near you? perhaps your mother (or grandmother you where close to) has already passed and is trying to communicate something to you to help you and that she will not move on until she has told you and you have listened and understand.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
6 The Direction card is the King of Wands.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
This is a card of seeing the big picture, being in control and holding what is near and dear and useful close to you. This card sums up all the other cards and the message within them. This is a card that tells you to rule your roost, it is your life and your future, live it for yourself and for no-one else (of course if children are involved, then we must live to be there for them). The King tells you to have no interest in those people who speak to you in defeating words. There is a difference in constructive criticism and outright put downs. You do not need these peoples input. Do not give them your time. There are so many other bright and inspiring individuals in your life that these people should be tossed to the side, they are not part of your circle.
While you have many who do offer you sound advice and suggestions, remember that in the end, the decision is yours and yours alone. Do what YOU think you should do. You may be wrong, but you will learn and grow from these mistakes.
Also, do not allow any guilt to push you in a bad direction. This goes back to not letting the pains of your past effect the actions you take in the future. Be wise with your experience of the past, do not make the same mistakes, but also do not make a move because it lead to a bad situation in the past - to NOT make that same move, you could be missing out on something great.
A lame example, but a common one, would be- a blind date. All your blind dates have been flops, don't stop accepting blind dates because of this, mr right could be found on a blind date....lame example but hopefully you get the idea.
So the new you will not act and react like the old you. You are full of joy and youthful appreciation, you are being reborn. Hold the memories as memories only, they are your wisdom that is within the new you that you did not have before. This wisdom enlightens you and aids you in living a bright a peaceful life.

I am an artist and crafter, I work magic, and read tarot cards. Combine all that and of course my decks are stored in bags I have made.

It all started when I received a used deck that had no original box. I needed something for the deck to protect it. I had some mass produced bags and used one but did not like how the deck slid around inside the bag. I wanted a bag that was more like the box that the cards came in.

I sat down and measured the deck. With that I created a pattern. Then came choosing the fabric. OH BOY...that was fun but difficult. SO many options and combinations! How would I choose? No problem, I just made the bag to be reversible so that I could enjoy two different fabric combinations.
Some will make a wish, some think it's just a sign saying all is OK. Some will encounter the number and disregard it or say it is nothing, just random. They might say that is is something in the mind that makes one notice it more often and it is nothing supernatural or magical. There is another group of people who believe that they know what the number represents and have sent their beliefs out into the world. Some of those thoughts; the number is a ‘gateway’ number or a function of humanities spiritual evolution, a message from angels, a DNA activation code. I fall into the category of knowing that it is significant, yet I do not know what it means. When I come across the number, I feel that it is telling me that I am doing things right in life, I’m on the right track so to speak. I have also come across the idea that it is a number that is presented to all the light-worker/healers upon the earth at this time. With my personal experience, I can sort of resonate with this. I have always been there to help one who is hurt, being physical, emotional or spiritual.
One, of the many things I have found regarding 11:11, here is one that I really like

I first encountered the number 1111 when I was 11, imagine that! I joined a scout troop and that was our troop’s number. It meant nothing to me at the time. I also am a child of the dawning of the digital age. My first digital wristwatch I got for Christmas when I was about 9 or 10. I probably saw 11:11 back then, but did not connect with it since I had no use for knowing time at that age. To this day I still do not wear a watch.

When I was 12, my mom told me about something that started with her fiancé. He was waiting with his brother for a table at a cafe, he looked at his digital watch and saw that it was 11:11. He made a comment about how often he sees 11:11. His brother mentions that he had been seeing the number quite often as well. They thought it odd and left it at that. My mom’s fiancé came home that night and told my mother about the number and the conversation with his brother. That is when it all started for her. She started to see the number quite often and when she told me the story, I started to ‘recognize’ the number.This sort of supports the idea that it is something in the mind, power of suggestion. The idea that it is mentioned to someone and subconsciously they start to be drawn to it. This does not fully apply in my experience. I was wearing this number before the time aspect was presented to me. That is why I say recognize, because the number came to me before I noticed it to be something more common among others.I was no longer in girl scouts so I had not connected my old troop number to this yet, that would come several years later when getting ready for a move and I had to pack the things in my closet. I was quite in awe that day and that sparked and even deeper curiosity on a personal level. The number 11:11 would show itself very often. There would be times when I was in no need to know the time, yet, I was drawn to look at the clock. Again one could say that it was a subconscious thing, but try to use that logic for the times when I would be driving along the highway and a billboard clock would say 11:11. I also worked at a business and the address was 1111. Then there are the ticket numbers, the receipts, the flight number....

...and on and on.

How is this explained?

One could say, it’s just a number, like 3:33 or 5:55, when in reference to time, and these same numbers can be repeated in other things for certain individuals. I do not see other patterned numbers at such volume as I do 11:11. What I have found is, that even though people do see these repeated numbers, it is 11:11 specifically that gets the most attention and is the most often seen and talked about. I have ventured into a few ‘spiritual’ communities in www world, and the number seems to be discussed more than any other multiple digit number with the possible exception of 666.

I am not surprised that the first time I ‘connected’ to 11:11 was when I was 11. It may have been 1 year 11 months and 1 day, from that first encounter to the second, for all I know and if it was, I would not doubt it. The patterns that are presented to us are amazing when you look for them. To this day I still see the number, quite often. I am always running into other people who also have a connection to this number.

Long ago, my mother sent me an email with the time-stamp of. . . . .11:11. I emailed her back and told her - look there is the 11:11, she emailed back a comment and that time stamp was 1:11, not quite the same, but it goes on. I emailed her back, again, pointing out the time, again, she replied again, at 2:22. Since then, there have been other emails that are time stamped 11:11 between us.

So while it may not be just 11:11, it still hold something over the other numbers. But these other numbers and patterns that people notice are just as valid, they just have something different to it. People who notice these numbers will say that it is meaningful to them, even if they do not know what it means. At this moment in my life I cannot say what the 11:11 phenomena is about. There are some things that seem to make more sense to me than others. But I have not come to any solid knowing of what 11:11 means as a whole. It may be possible that all of these theories have some truth to them, none of the theories have a premise that is malicious or detrimental to any persons peace of mind or physical liberties.

How I Got the Pagan Label

We all get labels…like them or not. Some are fairly harmless. I have never had much issue with what labels others put on me, I could really care less. To me labels are often misused and some labels carry a negative connotation.
The question, 'what religion are you?' or 'do you believe in God?' would eventually come up. For a long time I was not sure how to answer that. It took me many years finding out how to answer that question. Lucky for me, I can only remember two times. Well, really once. But I was asked if I was a Christian. I KNEW how to answer that question…."No".

I started out irreligious right from the start for I was not raised in a religion. But I was exposed to the stories of the Bible from a very early age. What I knew of Christianity was not something I could connect to. The world created in six days, Adam and Eve. The idea of a heavenly father that impregnated a human and had a son that was some hybrid was not making any sense to me. While I did have an active imagination and wanted to believe in things like fairy godmothers and super powers, I knew better. The some of the stories in the bible where just the same thing to me. I think that the Bible belongs on the mythology shelf. As much as I thought about it and tried out prayer (to God), I could not find belief in 'God'.

In my search to find my spiritual self, I grasped at things like 'mother earth' and 'father time' to personify those aspects of the bigger spiritual picture of our own realities. Deep within my soul, from an early age, I knew that there was something of great divine power somewhere, somehow.

An early encounter on the playground in elementary school taught me to not express my irreligious nature and I was able to avoid any religious exposing of myself while attending a Christian school for two years.
(why a Christian school is a different story, but I can tell you it had nothing to do with religion)
It would not be until I was 19 when the guy I was dating asked if I believed in God. I hesitated to answer that. I was not sure how to answer that so I simply said 'No'. He then said, 'So you are an atheist', and to that I hesitated and said, 'No'…..What was I? I had no clue. I did not know about things like agnosticism, paganism or Wicca. I was only aware of the major world religions and other than Christianity, I was not knowledgeable as to what those religions were about. Eventually I found the catch phrase, 'spiritual but not religious'. That was my 'go to' reply at the time.

It was also when I was 19 that I was formally introduced to Native American spirituality. I had always admired the native people of this land. As a small child, I would root for the 'indian' in the black and white westerns. The spiritual approach of the native people was something I could connect to, everything was very nature based. And the stories! The stories where much more fun than what is found in the Bible, and there was no vengeful guy in the sky. One might equate the Great Spirit with God, as a heavenly father creator. In those ways they are alike. However, He was simply the grandfather spirit and creator of the heavens. He did not 'rule' over any thing. I never got the impression that this Creator was some sort of dictator or egomaniac. And as far as one's fate, that was in the hands of Grandmother Spider.
But, that was not a 'religion' I could be a part of. Sure I could 'participate', but with all the respect in the world, theirs is one of heritage. I can borrow the personified concepts and often do. It was at this time that I learned what anima was, and that was a major click. I had always viewed the natural world around me in this way, I just never had the word to describe it. I am an animist.... but even that is still no religion.

Through the the years no one brought the subject of religion, so the whole thing was null with the exception of spiritual talk, no faiths mentioned, just people sharing there perspective and experiences. Likely this was due to the fusion of my friends being punk rock and/or Deadheads.
I got closer to a label in my 30's upon discovering pantheism. I liked the concept of 'all is god'. However, there was also the disregarding of things like reincarnation, ghosts and psychic ability in pantheism and those where aspect of spirituality and nature that I believe in. And I just don't believe in these things blindly either. Experience has given me the proof I need, but I felt these things instinctively from a young age.
Proof is just a side-effect.

It was also in my 30's, late in the decade, that I found my own original label. It started when gravitated towards the occult in my late teens, starting with astrology. But that has nothing to do with religion. When it came to religion, I had picked up pieces of all kinds of faiths, found the good in them all, tossed aside the things that where just silly. With those things and my own personal experiences, perceptions and instinctive feelings, I came up with the term, Freeform Spiritualist.

It was art and the internet of all the things that brought me to paganism, For it for sure was not the pagans I had met, but that is a different story. The thing that did it was being part of a well known handmade website. It was these pagans that were creative and artistic like me, and they were all different 'flavors' of pagans, and all shared my spiritual perspective and where just a whole lot of fun to hang out with. I had found a group of like minded people and it felt really good.
It was then that I became a Pagan.
But I still mostly use the freeform spiritualist term.
Someone would do a three card reading and choose one of the cards to be the missing one. They would present the reading 'report' in full but only identify two of the cards. Everyone else would then try and figure out what card is the missing one.

Well, it was my turn to do a reading. I really do not read for myself so much. I usually have to have a very serious 'crisis' that I feel totally lost before I pick up the cards. Finding something to read about was a challenge. After a while of pondering something 'fun' to read about, it came to me; The Ghost!

A little bit about the ghost.
I had been looking for a new place to rent. While at work I happened to strike up a conversation with a landlord (unknown to me) who happened to have a place available. I would not be off of work until late but he said "Go on in, it's open", I could go see it then. So that I did, I was eager to find something. Upon entering the house and getting about 10 feet in, I stopped, I felt something. I knew this feeling from my first ghost encounter. I acknowledged the presence and the feeling by saying, "There is a ghost here." It was a mix of knee jerk, and knowing that I should express that I know that the ghost was there.

I'm not the kind of person to let a ghost stop me from taking a place I like. I have lived with a ghost before. I moved into the place almost immediately.
It took a few months before we started to see a pattern with this ghost. We discovered that the ghost mostly 'hangs out' in the bathroom and the small bedroom.
Back to the reading. I decided to see if I could find anything out about the ghost that lived with us. Of the three cards I pulled, I could not decide what card to make the missing card. The cards flowed into each other so well. However, even with a good flow in the cards, it felt unfinished. I needed that one last card, the mystery card, and I let the ghost pick it (perhaps the ghost knew what I was doing and wanted to have a say, thus the unfinished reading).

I took the deck into the bathroom and told the ghost to pick a card. I left the room for a few minutes, retrieved my deck, cut it and took the card from the top and made that the mystery card.

'So what are the cards, where's the reading!?'
I hear ya!

I used a spread with the card positions; Idea, Challenge, Advantage.
I added the I Ching (**) associations tot he cards and after pulling the cards and doing the reading, I found that the well known Past, Present, Future(*) spread fell into place nicely.

Idea (*past)(**Temptation)
6 of Swords reversed: the imagery, right away, said to me, "crossing over the river" and I thought, 'could this be a drowning?'
The nutshell traditional meaning (upright) of the card is moving on, or away from a bad situation. Moving on and crossing over are terms of death. In reversed, the moving away would then be moving towards. My house was located just across the street from a river, a good sized one. Way back when, the river used to be much bigger. It was then that I got a sense that this was a young boy who wanted to go to the river and did not wait for an adult. The reversed nature of the card and the 'edginess' of the suit of Swords, there is an essence of defiance. In reversed, the card is about being stuck or an underworld journey. A ghost is indeed considered stuck.

Challenge (*present)(**The Well)
9 of Cups: this card continues with the focus on water, as cups is the suit of water, and the I Ching association of the well, as in water well. The challenge in the present is to find that place of calm, of peace & healing. To get away from the worry & have times of enjoyment.

Advantage (*future)(**Liberation)
10 of Cups: this is the card of home & happiness. I take this to be the environment I have brought to this place (the house). Here is a secure home, we, the kids and I all acknowledge the ghost without fear and have no problems cohabiting. The card indicates a goal achieved successfully & the emotional fulfillment (for the ghost I presume).

Water is a significant theme with this set of cards. There are two Cup cards, the suit of water. In the Sword card the river is just another character in the visual story. Seeing all the water is not a surprise, the ghost does like the bathroom, especially the tub, and we live along the river.

So the missing card. I took my deck to the bathroom and set it on the counter and told the ghost to choose a card and asked, 'What do we need to do for you?' After a few minutes I retrieved my deck and pulled the last card.

From the card: the ghost feels a sense of worthlessness. Maybe because he has difficulty communicating to others who have been in the house before. This child was taken away from the family life he enjoyed. His life was abruptly cut off & that is worrisome for the ghost. I believe that making the ghost a welcomed member of the family may give the ghost just the thing he desires, something that no-one else did, which left the ghost feeling doubtful of ever having a childhood.
The acceptance we offer could lead to the ghosts liberation.
(Can you guess the card?)

Now came the guessing. Typically people would just offer their guess, but one in the group wanted to play with this one so they did their own reading. They meditated on the question I asked.
"What do we need to do for you?"
5 of cups- the ghost has lost much and feels alone. He wants to feel cared about again.
8 of swords- the ghost is bound and unable to communicate, however, he could free himself if he were to choose to do so and the offer made.
9 of swords- the ghost is filled with grief and remorse about things lost and unable to recover. He feels very alone with no one to tell his despair to. He thinks all the time about his losses. They tie him to the house.
4 of cups- the ghost is miserable alone but has been given an offer to be cared about and become a part of a family again which he is deciding whether or not to accept.

The guess for the 'missing' card was the 4 of Cups. And guess what…that was indeed the card!

Putting the two readings side by side is very interesting. It is these sort of happenings that I wished that a skeptic had been in the room. Not only did both sets of cards express near the same message,
the cards themselves had a pattern.

Starting with the suits; except for the missing card, the first three card suits have 'flipped'. My Sword is their Cup and their Swords are my Cups. Swords is the Suit of Air and represents intellect, the mind and communication. Cups is the suit of Water and associates with emotions and psychic sensitivity. Very significant symbolism when talking about ghosts, or trying to talk to them.
Now the numbers. I have 6, 9, 10; they have 5, 8, 9. the numbers follow the same counting pattern because the second reading the number is one less in each position. I can't say much about any symbolism of the numbers or the pattern specifically. However, the way I see it, it is one of the 'coincidences' that is just a manner of expression that what is going on, really matters.
In other words, a coincidence is not a coincidence. The number pattern is just something to confirm and give validation to the reading and connection with the ghost.

Now let's look at some key words for the cards using words given by Joan Bunning
~ follow link for more detailed meanings
'Missing Card'
~ 4 of Cups; self-absorbed, feeling apathetic, going within
First Cards
~ 6 of Swords; feeling the blues, recovering, traveling
~ 5 of Cups; suffering a loss, feeling sorrow and regret
Second Cards
~ 9 of Cups; wishes fulfilled, physical enjoyment, satisfaction
~ 8 of Swords; Restrictions, powerlessness, confusion
Third Cards
~ 10 of Cups; joy, peace, family
~ 9 of Swords; worry, guilt, anguish

Both readings share the sense of sadness, regret, loneliness and so on. My cards logically had the more personal and environmental card, 10 of Cups; giving the ghost a 'home & family'.

It was a really fun and interesting study of the cards. Not just this one game but the others as well. The study pushed us to look at a meaning and stretch the mind to figure out what card had been pulled.

Flow….

Every year, at its end, we get that notion to have a resolution or something in the years time to accomplish. For me, the first half of the year will be a close to a chapter in my life when I get my art degree. School took a lot of me away from my business side. But now, I have a mission!

I was not able to focus on it before, so I tossed it aside and now I want to pick it back up and polish it up. I have done so by creating a new brand, as you see…my first blog post is the initiation of the branding for my tarot services.

Being the magical metaphysical person that I am, I took notice that the transition between years happens under a New Moon. What wonderful energy to assist in humanities desire to do things different! Personally, this is a double hit. I was born under a New Moon with only an hour and thirteen minutes to go before the New Year.
So of course I am thinking, 'I really should take advantage of this energy!'

I start seeing all these things popping up on social networks about the New Moon and its energy that is perfect for 'planting the seeds'. Then I find a blog post a fellow artist about having a 'go to' word for the new year (which she got from another blog). This is just after listening to an Abraham-Hicks rant that was talking about 'having a word'. While not totally in the same context all that matters is that there is a word, my word.
I think about what my word might be and of course it is not instantly forthcoming. But that is OK, I know the perfect word will come to me.

I post about it to a G-Community I am in and I find my response post is at 11:11. Well if that is not something synchronistic, I don't know what is. (11:11 has be 'with me' for many, many years.) So I think about what word can I connect to 11:11?
There are all kinds of ideas about what 11:11 means. It is seen so often and recognized as 'something' by so many people, it is a number that has gotten a lot of attention. Just google 11:11 and see all the stuff that comes up about the number.

There are concepts about 11:11 that I like and others that I think someone needs to bring themselves a little bit closer to ground level, but hey, I am one to say that just about anything is possible. I am not going to believe or disbelieve but I will lean one way or another.
With 11:11, it is rather personal. I have not subscribed to anything anyone is claiming about 11:11. I have seen it in my own life and the pattern it created with it's appearance and I know from this what it is about, for me.

11:11 pops up when I am doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing. I am where I need to be. I am thinking what I need to be thinking. To put it into a single word form so that I could maybe use it for my year word, I could only come up with fate and destiny. The words may fairly convey the essence of the meaning of 11:11, it really was not working for me as a year word. The words just seems a bit to definite and fixed….then something happened. I could not tell you exactly what it was. But it was what brought my word to me. And it is a good word, a perfect word for me, for the year…
… ….Flow
I am one who is easy going, but I am also a git'er done kind as well.

People like me when I held manager positions because I was not 'bossy' yet made sure everyone was doing their jobs and things ran like clockwork. I look back at the hard times in my life and the turning point away from those hard times always came when I finally stopped fighting it and just let go…let go and just let what ever happens happen.

I once explained it to a friend like this-
I was struggling, fighting the current and getting no where but more and more tired. Finally I had had enough and I said "F*** This!"…. I cannot fight this thing any more, there is no reason to work so hard and just get more and more down stream. Fine! I let go and I just floated along, enjoyed the ride and just went with the flow of things.

I found that when I just was in the flow… I would float past things, or things would float past me, that where just what I needed when I needed it. Every moment and every day was right there, in the moment. Enjoying where I was at that part of the floating along.
No more fighting! All just enjoying and only living in that moment and OH the ease of transitions. Flowing from moment to moment. I did not always have to think about things so much! Answers and solutions would 'magically' present themselves.

Honestly, I am fully aware of this and how it all works. Obviously, duh, I am telling a story of it within my own life. Unfortunately I have not been really abiding by my own knowings, Tsk-tsk!
Well I am all over that now! I have a word, I have a memory, I have a working metaphor and I am good to go! I approach 2014 and I approach it by being in the Flow!
During the early years of Christianity, 'pagan' was mainly in reference to the old polytheistic traditions of the people in the area. Today being 'pagan' does not offer such a clear picture.
Today, every pagan is different from other pagans in some way. Pagan is an umbrella term as well as a fixed term. One who is Wiccan is considered pagan, but someone who is pagan is not Wiccan. Some Native Americans and Buddhists accept being under the pagan label, and some do not. Some who are Atheists feel pagan. Some see Paganism as a religion, and some are, and some see Paganism as just a sense of spiritual being that is in string connection with the earth and nature.

So what exactly is a Pagan? Ultimately that is up to the individual. No matter how much a 'liberal' pagan may explain the fuzzy parameters to a 'fundamental' religious person, that person will hold on to their own definition....well, that's not entirely true. There are people who will listen and learn. However, I'm speaking about those who are just sticks in the mud.

For me, being pagan is about the natural world, what we know and what we don't know. My father was a scientist who worked to preserve a part of the Amazon rainforest. My affection for earth and life upon it must be in the blood. The animals, the plants on this planet and the rocks and gasses that are light years away, yet can be seen, all fascinate me. It is life, it is energy, it is creation- the Universe and everything in it is my 'god'.

I honor and am an observer and of the Universe and all that is within it. I like to say that the only laws I follow are the laws of Nature, they are the only ones that can't be broken. I am an unofficial scientist who loves and is curious about my subjects. But it goes beyond formal science, beyond modern science, and even back to ancient science....and lets not forget Alchemy.

There is the tangible, the physical; what we can see, touch, taste and so on. There is the unseen physical that we do see evidence of, atoms, cells, viruses, radio waves.

But then there is the unseen, the non-tangible, yet, often encountered, consciousness, love...and Spirit.

Sometimes there is a conflict between science and religion, or religion and science (might be the better way of phrasing it).

There must be something more if for thousands of years humanity has created all kinds of concepts that link physical us with something unseen that is 'out there'. I think at the core, and when true to the faith, religion has a good grip on the Spiritual. But it is man and his mind that muddles things by throwing in stories to prove a point. Someone misses the point and looks to make a point out of a different part of the story.

I think science is on the right track towards figuring it out, but they are not seeing it from the right angle and there are areas that are not put together, ignored or disregarded that are part of the science of Spirit.

The alchemists had the right idea for their time. To perhaps paraphrase what a spokesman for the association of alchemists would say, had there been one, "We know the Ether (spirit/god) exists. We do not understand it and are likely never meant to understand it because it is so big and vast we could never fully comprehend it, but we still accept and acknowledge its existence."

Spirit was a part of science at one time. Many of the early scientists were also astrologers. For many years astrology was accepted as truth. Then modern science came along and said 'no way, not possible' but astrology endures and survives through the criticism. We have been learning that planetary energy does have it's effects over great distances. Hard to imagine for some that a round ball of elements floating millions of miles away could effect earth. Why? Why is it hard to imagine. We see the effects of the Moon. Yes, it's closer. It feels more within our physical realm because we can see it. There is no reason why another stellar body would not also have an effect on us, in ways we cannot see....the astrologers see it, but they are looking at the tangible; the planets and their positions, and determining from years, centuries of observations and writings, what these effects are.

Let's begin with these questions by taking a closer look.

What is Tarot?
Tarot is a deck of 78 cards that came into existence in Italy in the mid 1400's. At that time, the cards where used for the card game called Tarocchi which is played by rules much like Bridge. These original decks were hand painted commissioned works, made at the request of wealthy merchants. The earliest known deck dates to about 1441. It would not be until after the invention of the printing press that tarot cards would be mass produced. While a deck was made specifically for divination in the 1800's, it was not until 1910 that ever so popular and well known Rider Waite Smith deck was published.

But before all this... A French occultist, Eliphas Levi, found that the 22 Trump cards of the Tarrocchi deck neatly correlated with the Tree of Life, the foundation of Kabbalah. It was this connection that he utilized tarot playing cards with mysticism and magic.

• Some added interesting info and dates...
Eliphas Levi was born in 1810, Arthur Edward Waite was born in 1857, Edward Alexander Crowley (Aleister Crowley) was born in 1875. And what is the link with these three besides tarot? Both Waite and Crowley translated and published some of Eliphas Levi's written works. Levi's works became a major part of the foundation of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was a magical paternity (that allowed women) started in 1888 by William Westcott and Samuel Mathers; the order 'died' in 1903. However, both Waite (joined in 1891) and Crowley (initiated in 1898) had been members and when the HOGD was no more, both men created a spin-off order of their own.

How about those Gypsies?
Gypsy is not the preferred term and is viewed as a ethnic slur. This is the Romani people; traditionally and historically a nomadic people. They are found all over the world today, but where do they come from originally? With advances in genetics and DNA testing, it has been found that their origins are from Northern India and Pakistan. Exactly why they migrated as they did is still in question for the Romani people have no written history.

When the word 'gypsy' is mentioned it often brings to mind the idea of a psychic fortune-teller. Where the idea of the Romani people being fortune-tellers comes from cannot be totally nailed down, it is a bit like the 'which came first, chicken or the egg?' question.
Palmistry and Vedic Astrology has a very long history in India and the Far East, so it would stand to reason that a people who originally came from India and the Far East would likely be skilled in these practices. Even today, the cultural structure of the Romani has its foundation in Caste system found in Hinduism.
In the early 1300's there was a linguistic association made. The language of the Romani contain many dialects that originate from Sanskrit. A group of Romani was compared to another group called Mandapolos due to the language spoken. Mandapolos is thought to be derived from the Greek word that means 'fortune-teller'.

With a nomadic lifestyle one must be quite creative and adaptive in making a living. With the Indian and Hindu origin of the people, they likely already had the know-how for reading palms.
So did the early Romani utilize this 'fortune-teller' image and give the people what they were looking for? Or did the 'label' fit from the start and just grow from there?
As for the cards, given that Tarot is known today as a form of divination, it is easy to see that the people and the cards would go hand in hand. The Romani did arrive in Italy roughly the same time that the first tarot (game) cards are known to have appeared. But cards were commissioned works of art that only aristocrats and such could afford.

Is there such a thing as Fortune Telling?
Fortune telling is a term used for the practice of divination. There is a distinction between the two terms; divination was conducted during a religious ritual, where as fortune-telling is less formal and more personal. Divination can be done with many different tools or none at all. Cards of any kind, not just tarot cards, can be used as well as tea leaves, the lumps and wrinkles on one's head, a persons palm and the classic crystal ball.
"You will meet a tall, dark and handsome man."... this idea comes from the early days of cartomancy (using playing cards for divination) in the 18th century. Each court card in a standard deck of playing cards had been given specific meaning in the form of 'who' as in what they looked like and their age. Readings done during this time was more of a form of parlor entertainment than it was actual divination. These types of meanings given to the cards have come a long way since then, as has the art of cartomancy.
Today, tarot is more of a guidance tool. The cards reflect a different perspective than what a person may be clinging to. It introduces to the mind other possibilities and situations that had not been previously considered. However, there is still a bit of mysticism to the cards depending upon who is doing the reading. This is where intuition and psychic impressions come into the picture. It is not the cards that can predict the future, it is the reader who taps into the interconnectedness of the collective consciousness. And then there is the person who is astute in logic progression; 'If you do 'A', then 'B' will happen'.
All good tarot readers as well as psychics will say that no future is set in stone. That there is the current path that one is on and that path can be changed. If a reader tells a client that their relationship is headed towards a nasty ending, then there is already trouble in the relationship. In order for that to change, the person must take steps to change it. The relationship could be healed, or could end on a softer note. Either way, the person receiving the reading has been given a seed of thought to contemplate and prepare for, or take necessary measures to avoid.
What about things like pregnancies and accidents? There are specific cards that are indicators of these things, but they each have other meanings as well. It is all in the intuition of the reader that deciphers what the specifics in the card are relevant and important in the reading.

So what can we formulate from all this information?

• Did the Romani really bring tarot cards to the world?
I feel pretty safe in even saying 'absolutely not!'
Coincidentally, they were in the same place at the same time, however, evidence and logic would have it that the two never had any connection.
• How so?
Though they where both in Italy at the same time, Tarot cards where only for the elite. They where the only ones who could afford them. The Romani people had a hard enough time making a living and were always on the move; there would be no way they could possibly afford to commission a deck to made for them, let alone stick around long enough for its completion.
• How about fortune telling?
Is it just coincidence through a logical view of events and how these typically progress? Or is there really some magic to it all?
Predicting the future can be done, but is quite rare. I believe that it is a bit of both; a lucky and, or, logical guesswork, but at times, can be truly intuitive.
I am reminded of an account told to me by someone who was at the World Trade Center on that fateful day. He was to attend a meeting and minutes before the meeting he had the strong urge to leave the building. He did not know the 'why' for the impression he had, but heeded the feeling. He did not predict the attack specifically, but something deep within told him that he should not be in the building. He is alive today because of it.Owl Ka Mysthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03523201126901001484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489195571847717508.post-50115317643129223742013-10-26T19:48:00.006-07:002022-03-16T19:02:27.364-07:00The Moon Card

The full Moon illuminates over an island isolated in the middle of the ocean... or is it an island at all? Looking closer one might see something other than an island. It looks like…a Dragon. Is this just a natural oddity or has some 'shape-shifting’ taken place? {I'm suddenly reminded of werewolves and the transformation that takes place under a full Moon} It appears that the dragon dreams peacefully, sleeping in an emotional waterbed. With the Moon comes dreams and the subconscious speaking through illusions. Perhaps the Dragon wishes to meditate on what has been floating around in her mind. Or has she created the island to hide herself from those who would do her wrong? She knows that in this form she can rest safely. And what of her enemies? They think they are crazy for never noticing the island before and are puzzled by her disappearance. In Astrology the Moon rules the sign Cancer, the Crab. In tarot the Moon is associated with Pisces. A pair of fish tied together and swimming in opposite directions represents Pisces. The ruling planet of Pisces is Neptune, King of the Sea, yet it is the Moon that controls the ocean's tide. The Moon has a duality about her as well. The speed of rotation and orbit of the Moon is synchronized perfectly so all we will ever see is the one face. Her other face is known as the dark side of the Moon, a side of her we shall never see from our Earthly vantagepoint. To call this face the dark side is misleading the Sun does shine upon the 'dark side' during the waxing and waning phases. With the Moon we must be aware of the natural cycles in life, around us and within us and that there is a dark and light side to everything and not everything is what is seems to be.

I have been working on reinventing my 'home business'. I have been working under the web ID of 'DragonsMoon'. It is the name of my Etsy shop. and my Facebook page and my Twitter page In that shop I sold both my art and my readings but I felt the time came for a change.

The name 'DragonsMoon' was a bit of a forced decision. I had to come up with something and so I just picked the two things that I really love, Dragons and the Moon. I like it, but it never grew well as a 'business' name. Under A Magic Moon is the name of my blog that I have had for many years. The name is fitting to everything I do. All that I do happens under a magic moon, my inspiration & my intuition. So it was decided that I would make my web 'home' Under a Magic Moon. Not the blog, but a new website that is currently under construction.
The new Under a Magic Moon is the home of The Dragon's Cave which is to represent my art studio and Owl Ka Myst ~ where I offer my tarot readings.

One part of my website is already live and available for viewing, part of Owl Ka Myst Tarot.
This is where one finds out about the tarot workshops and can view sample readings. These pages are a bit in the works as well. But one has to start someplace.
I have also gotten my new Facebook page up for the Tarot side.

Hope to see you around cyberland.
